Farmer’s training on Government agriculture scheme and improved farming methods

Title:                                Farmer’s training on Government agriculture scheme and
                                         improved farming methods
Resource persons:            Mr. Mukesh Chand and Dr. Gupta, Senior scientist, K.V.K,
                                         Bharari Farm, Jhansi
Venue:                              Meeting Hall of Babina Block, Jhansi.
Output:                            65 participants learnt about Agricultural schemes and
scientific method of farming, especially Rabi crops.

Issues discussed:
·         All the government schemes related with agriculture like ATMA, National food security mission, Raizobium culture, Sprinkle set schemes and subsidy on several agricultural instruments, Isopalm Yojna, Seed drill subsidy etc.
·         The experts discussed how to use water for irrigation efficiently and emphaised on use of sprinkle set and use of kyari system to preserve moisture in the land.
·         Integrated pest management is important for better yield and use of bio-pesticides will minimize the cost and it has also no side effect. Farmers learnt few techniques for making bio-pesticides at home.
·         If farmers of Bundelkhand have to get better yield and increase their income from agriculture first of all they have to go for better seeds and for this seed substitution is essential. K.V.K scientists also discussed on this issue. For this farmers require special two day training, at k.v.k.
·         Issue of mixed cropping and crop rotation was also discussed with farmers.
·         Agricultural engineering very important component. Farmers came to know about some equipments through which they can save their time. An agricultural engineer Mr. Ashwini pandey discussed this with the farmers.

Observations and recommendations

·         If farmers are trained by agricultural scientists, they feel satisfied with the training. Their queries and doubts were cleared by the scientists.
·         The team members of Harit Prayas also received training.
·         Farmers came to babina block meeting hall on their own. They had to spend 60-100 rs. for this training. But I do feel that there are many other poor and marginalized farmers who wanted to participate in the training, could not come to babina block meeting hall. We need to think over this issue.
·          Media covered the news related with Harit Prayas despite of the fact that due to election timing media houses are flooded with political news. Its good sign for the project.
·         The aspect of Agricultural engineering and seed substitution must be incorporated in the project which the team JCSS would like to discuss in the annual review meeting.
·         3 women farmers also participated in the training.
·         Farmers were keen to learn even after the training was over, as it is evident from the photographs.
