भूख....एक मज़दूर की...Hunger....is not an entertainment/fast/pizza/dieting...for those families who do not get food!

पेट खाली हुआ, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,घर में चुल्लाह जला नही, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,
परिवार बड़ा है....घरवाली कही से रोटिया लाई थी चार, बट गयी, तो पता चला भूख लगी है..

Recently on 10th Dec 2013, Carits India have launched a campaign on -One human Family food for all! to understand more about hunger and how it relates with the concept -"one Human family".. I have spent evening few hours with people involved in construction work ( stying on footpath and in huts) near my house in Dwarka (New Delhi) and later on two evenings with a construction worker family ( basic a homeless family) to understand what 'hunger' is for them....

It was difficult to explain ...and was difficult to even know that there are many homeless people, construction worker, daily wages people in cities like Delhi and I hope in other cities also go to their bed ( on floor-that the only bed with them in this chilled winter) with entire family without food....is this not surprising that entire family is sleeping without food..... (आप के सिर्फ़ आँसू नही आएँगे...लेकिन आप रो देंगे..).....for many of us being hunger is fast, being hunger is an entertainment, being hunger is losing our weight, being hunger is going out for food, being hunger means pizza.....but for more than us...many many more than us...many people are there for whom 'hunger is pain...a family pain' ...just with my feelings i put some words for construction worker/homeless people facing 'hunger'....

भूख....एक मज़दूर की...

पेट खाली हुआ, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,
घर में चुल्लाह जला नही, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,

दिन भर कमारतोड मज़दूरी की , ष्हां को मलिक के पास गया,
मज़दूरी मिली नही, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,

इधर-उधर से कुछ पैसे उधार लिए, बाज़ार गया,
मुट्ठी भर भी आनाज मिल ना पाया, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,

घर पहुचा ...तो देखा बच्चो के चहेरे पे एक आस थी....
सिर्फ़ गले लगाने के सिवाए , कुछ दे ना पाया , तो पता चला भूख लगी है....

परिवार बड़ा है....घरवाली कही से रोटिया लाई थी चार, बट गयी, तो पता चला भूख लगी है..

मिट्टी के फर्श पे , या सड़क किनारे....नींद ना आई...
सुबह की बेचानी..की शयड कुछ जुगाड़ हो जाए....कही से...भर पेट खाना मिल जाए....
सोच के रते गुजर दी तो पता चला भूख लगी है....
पेट खाली हुआ, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,
घर में चुल्लाह जला नही, तो पता चला भूख लगी है,

ना जाने कब मितेगी.....या मिटा देगी हमे ये भूख.....

Linkage with University for Project Baseline Survey Facilitation @HARIT PRAYAS Jhansi

Harit Prayas is getting over by December of 2013, so for the next phase of Harit Prayas 2 a Baseline. Workshop was organized in PUNE by Caritas India on last august. This time JCSS initiated to link with professional students in social work and approach them through social media to be a volunteer for social survey and research including the analysis of situation of people in villages. We have called all ongoing project staff from ADHIKAR, AAJEEVIKA, GAD, and HARIT PRAYAS PROJECT to be the part of baseline survey. An intense training than field work, form filling, data collection was done in field (16 villages of Babina block as a new project area of Harit Prayas 2) from 4 September to 18 September. Than situational analysis and computerfeeding took 5 days more as on 23 we finished our baseline. After the survey is over JCSS planned to provide them certificate from Caritas representatives as to boost the moral and motivation of MSW students. Students were not charged nor given any stipend for survey form filling, data collection and analysis along with data entry. All the the work of volunteer babsis but the good feature was “we are giving them an experience certificate with practical experience” which is very helpful in their future. So on 10 November 2013 from MR. Beppe – Caritas Italiana, MS. Mayte – Caritas Spain distributed certificates of Baseline Survey were to MSW students who participated in Baseline process. As their strong will power and determination it helped organization as well as their personal skill & strength as becoming a professional in development sector. JCSS is thinking to practice this in other projects to as to give young social worker a qualitative working knowledge in development sector.

As JCSS is growing as a professional organization so we need to see the individual strength and skills and capability of staff in the same way after the caritas representative visit we introspected our strengthen, weakness, goals in working as social change elements. Director - Fr. V J Thomas, Asst. Director – Vinu George along with HP team had a small meeting and Director took a small written test cum details of understanding the field. All staff members submitted the answers and after that individual level feedback were given to each staff and also called every one for the suggestion as the things required for the skill development.

Agriculture Training @ HARIT PRAYAS JCSS-Jhansi

As the new crop season has arrived and Ground nut crop is over farmers needed better training and information for their cultivation in the series Harit Prayas organized an Agriculture Training in the project villages – Shekhar, Baghora, Koti, Rasina, Lahar. In the training information of natural and organic farming imparted to the farmers so that they can use organic methods for better output with low investment. Farmers were advised to have soil testing after every cultivation and follow the measures suggested by KVK in soil health card. And motivated to make Matka Khad as much as they can to reduce chemical feritlizer and pesticide. HP team focused on decreasing the use of chemical fertilizers in the field. Video audio and written communication tools were used for spreading awareness on sustainable agriculture.

Poultry farm Fund distribution @HARIT PRAYAS JCSS-Jhansi

Farmers got benefit of backyard poultry farm as 425/- were given to each along with 50 chicken from veterinary department. Dr. R K Tripathi from Raksha Vet. Hospital along with Bundelkhand package van came to village and phoned MS. Malti & Sr Anna (Both are Female cluster coordinator of project Harit Prayas in Jhansi) to identify the beneficiaries in Bamer & Rajapur village and in her presence money and chickens were distributed.

HARIT PRAYAS evaluation-Something different!

It was year 2010, when Caritas India thought of a development initiative in Bundelkhand region –considering three years (2008, 2009 and 2010) consecutive drought situation in the region. Finally on Jan 2011thought of caritas India converted in to a Programme called HARIT PRAYAS, which was first of its kind in terms of based on 100% baseline survey, with logo, with local name, partnership with KVK, NABARD and Panchayats and with wider visibility in media and online platform.

In Dec 2013 HARIT PRAYAS Programme would be completing its 3 years and keep this in mind Caritas India along with support agencies (Caritas Spain and Caritas Italian) conducted a unique way of evaluation, where a of total of 7 member team Coordinators and field Coordinators from other projects –JEEVIKA ( Madhya Pradesh) and ANKUR (Rajasthan) , the projects which similar in nature like HARIT PRAYAS  were engaged as evaluators for HARIT PRAYAS project. It took about 7 days (24th-30^th Sept 2013) to evaluate the entire HARIT PRAYAS Programme at 3 districts ( Jhansi, Sagar and Cahatarpur). Before the initiation of evaluation a one day workshop on evaluation tool development been organized by Caritas India and also HARIT PRAYAS been briefed on the same day to evaluators. Along with the coordinators PRI members, government officials, CBMOs members and community members were also the part of evaluation process.  In total 18 villages out of 64 been visited by team members and interacted with about 24 CBMOs, 14 government officials ( from NABARD, KVK, Bank, and agriculture department) and 14 PRI representatives.

On the other hand evaluation been also done through online feedback and suggestions, as HARIT is one of the most active Programme of caritas India on online platform.

In the evaluation process donor agencies (Caritas India, caritas Spain and Caritas Italian) were also involved in terms of sharing their experience and feedback with HARIT PRAYAS Programme to evaluators

On 30^th Sept 2013, evaluators presented the key findings of evaluation at caritas India Head Office and key findings states the following:

• ·         Community owns and feel the impact of HARIT PRAYAS
• ·         HARIT PRAYAS has able to deliver a model of linkages and convergence in terms of strengthening access to rights and entitlements amongst community
• ·         Sustainable agriculture through HARIT PRAYAS been able to spread in region with concept of low input cost
• ·         Community Based & Managed Organizations are some where limited to financial inclusion
• ·         Women Collective farming been emerged as one success but still women farmers need strong identity though Programme
• ·         HARIT PRAYAS as the most covered or known Programme in Bundelkhand region ( with more than 450 news coverage)
• ·         About 90% of Farmers club linked with institutions like NABARD and practice of sustainable technical agriculture ( in the form of usage of organic compost, soil testing, visit to KVK) been increased in 70% of farmers
• ·         Programme is quite visible and impact been shared  to a larger online platform, which has given visibility to the Programme and partners
• ·         Programme partners are able to mainstream HARIT PRAYAS and has developed systems based the functions of HARIT PRAYAS and are grown up as professional organization

What’s next?

Based on finding agencies supporting to HARIT PRAYAS has tentatively agreed to support fo further phase of HARIT PRAYAS and work on next phase proposal is on. Also HARIT PRAYAS evaluation report (detailed one ) is getting translated in Hindi and will be open to all on various online platforms and would also be shared with Media.

Evaluation process has well appreciated by HARIT PRAYAS partners, community and it has also enhanced capacities of Coordinators at partner level. Evaluation process has been widely covered by media.

Quarterly ( JUL-SEPT 2013) progress of HARIT PRAYAS @ JCSS-JHANSI

This quarter we got 110+ soils testing report in the HP field. With a result of Harit Prayas team effort through awareness camps conducted in different villages 350+ people availed the benefit of Backyard Poultry farm scheme. 30+ candidates are ready to avail them self of NRLM. Harit Prayas has crossed its boundaries impacting nearby village of project village. Till now we got 2000+ animals vaccinated. Director, Fr. V.J. Thomas & Asst. Director Fr. Vinu George had involved themselves with regular meeting with staff in office and meeting with beneficiaries in project field. We got 500 plants planted in HP field as our “GREEN JHANSI EFFORT” of JCSS for saving & protecting earth. Month of heavy rainy season it was very difficult to reach villages because of poor roads and excess rain than to in this challenging condition we successfully achieved our goals. Adhikar team from Buxar Diocese came for exposure visit in Harit Prayas Jhansi field in the starting of month. Livestock management camps & Vaccination Camp were organized in HP project villages. This month 708 cows and buffalos & 1213 goats were medically assisted along with medicines. Form filling camps on VIC for disable/widow/old age pension were also organized in concerned villages. NRLM awareness camp/agriculture awareness camp/ MGNREGA camps were also a part of major activities of the month. From 21 august to 25 august a baseline survey workshop was organised at Pune. Nehru yuva Kendra also responded enthusiastically and come forward to support youth club in villages. A special development concept of Development Learning was also initiated by JCSS as MSW students are coming to visit and learn from harit prayas field including doing research and practical exercises in Harit Prayas field. as special development concept of Development Learning was also initiated by JCSS as MSW students are coming to visit and learn from Harit Prayas field including doing research and practical exercises in Harit Prayas field. MSW students from Bundelkhand University had workshop training on Baseline Survey and along with the JCSS staff from 4 – 18 September survey and data collection was done in 16 villages of babina block. The evaluation of Harit Prayas was done by the coordinators of Jeevika & Ankur project. This month being so much involved in baseline and evaluation no further activities could be accomplished.
