CARITAS INDIA HARIT PRAYAS Social tourism WITH DEVELOPMENT LEARNING'S!

We facilitate and implement development initiative called HARIT PRAYAS in Bundelkhand region and in last 27 months the initiative has been a movement of change in the entire Bundelkhand region especially in terms of reducing farmers suicide through ‘zero down’ the case of farmers suicide through reducing input cost in agriculture by 80-90% and that too organic and sustainable. With all this we thought of promote development learning’s for citizens and experience the process of change through development movement called HARIT PRAYAS in the form of social tourism, where in people ( who even not are the part of development sector) would visit , and experience HARIT PRAYAS project villages and know the change process and would also visit the nearby international//national heritage ( as Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh is full of national and International heritage).I have attached a detailed  poster of it for your reference and also probably for promotion.

This is first time we are venturing in this way ; also this gives sustainability to the project villages as the money earn through it will directly go to the farmers club account of the concerned village and with that they would plan and do the development activities for their own village.

Let’s make HARIT PRAYAS impact reach to everyone…
Let’s make everyone to be the part of change process…

HARIT PRAYAS is a development initiative initiated in 2011 by caritas India with support from caritas Spain & Caritas Italiana and is being implemented by its three partner organisations –SSSS-satna ( at Chatrpur), MVSS-Sagar ( at Sagar) and JCSS-Jhansi ( at Jhansi).

HARIT PRAYAS @ Jhansi indicates sustainability for agriculture!

In terms of promotion of sustainable agriculture with HARIT PRAYAS at Jhansi we have got very good result ( based on harvesting in April-May 2013) as organic farming benefited farmers in increasing their livelihood with low input and high output ; With 20 kg seeds farmers got 4 – 5 quintal (400 – 500 kg) wheat production but on the other hand also we got 200 kg production  due to lack of water sources. Farmers were happy to see their golden crops.

HARIT PRAYAS brining new life to women of Bundelkhand@Sagar

Background
This case study is going to reveal how a mahila mandal got empowered with the intervention of HARIT PRAYAS team in Kadta village. The mahila’S ( women) of the mahila mandal were illiterate and were afraid going to bank or talking to bank officials. Mahila mandal name is “Versa Mahila Mandal” and there are 11 members in that mahil manda. It has its bank account in State bank of India.

HARIT PRAYAS Impact:
When HARIT PRAYAS project started it was for the first time women heard about opening a bank account by themselves and doing transaction alone. They were feeling panic but the secretary of this mahila mandal puspa bai vishwakerma took initative to teach the members of versa mahila mandal’s women how to read and write and gave them training for that. She herself was afraid of going to bank alone so previously she used to go with our animator name hari thakur and started learning the procedure and how to fill up the bank’s forms.

Result
As a result of this today they are regularly going to bank that to alone and can fill all the forms by themselves without asking anyone they can easily talk to manager without any afraid. The women of that mahila mandal can sign now they can’t be cheated as they can read. They are even raising their voice in gram sabha about their rights.

HARIT PRAYAS progress in April 2013@MVSS Sagar

This month started with our regular monthly meeting and we made a rigorous plan for awareness on conservation of non renewable resources which came out as a successful campaign and also what we are going to do this month including all our project activity and plan for our yearly review meet which was supposed to be held in Sagar. It was really a challenging task as for the first time it was supposed to be held in a village. So we were suppose to have a concrete plan for the success of this mega event. We were also able to complete all our targeted activity although our team was busy in managing the review meet. The concept of Atma manthan – 2 was to see the change that has taken place in the Bundelkhand region by Harit Prayas. During this Atma manthan – 2 we discussed about the impact of Harit Prayas in the Bundelkhand region of Jhansi, Satna and Sagar. During this review meet we went to see the four project villages of harit prayas namely Kadta, Semra Gond, Samnapur Kala and Juna. All the teams and Caritas officials went to see the actual change at the ground realities harit prayas. We also started with a new initiative of conserving power and money. In the villages like Samnapur, Jamghat we have started a campaigning for conserving electricity and because of that farmers are easily able conserve Rs 100 to Rs 400 a month. This initiative was actually being witnessed by Caritas officials and all other teams of harit prayas. Our Director, Fr. Shaju Devassy met with NABARD DDM for the further procedure of inauguration of the farmers club which is approximately done and may be in this quarter we will be easily  inaugurate few of our farmers clubs. We are already in the procedure of doing it. In the coming month we are going to have our recording of Bundelkhand folk album with akashwani which will be on MNREGA, Organic farming and other govt schemes.
